Unemployed but not idling

Recent figures of the employment rate and the pay rises of various occupations have been published. And well I'm in the figure of 2 point something % of the umemployed! well nothing to shout about.

I've been actively job hunting since my results came out somewhere in mid june. And well if i remember correctly, I only went for a grand total of 6 interviews? or was it 5? not a lot but i e-amiled out plenty of applications but well thats the law of averages for you. Now its already august and I think of all the interviews so far, theres only one that I'm keen in. A project Engineer at Power Automation, a joint venture between SingPower and Siemens. Basically i'm more of a software application engineer, involved in designing and creating software solutions for power plants which help the staff manage the plants. Throw in documentation, installating, training, troubleshooting and service support, it becomes challenging.

i think i did rather well for the interview, which was last wednesday. But of course even though its a very healthy job mkt as protrayed by the media, Employers still are selective, the mkt is still competitve and I didn't get a 1st Class honours to make my self very desirable! ok thats not quite the word to use, sought after is better.
So well they have to screen other candidates, discuss and then do the usual filtering process and decide if they want to offer you. I do hope i get it as this will provide me with lots of learning opportunities + it offers regional exposure as well.

But then again, maybe its august, i'm still unemployed because i'm too patient and picky? so thats why I'm getting quite anxious to start working. Idling too long makes the brain and body lazy. Although i haven't exactly been idling. In fact ever since exams was over, I been helping out at my Cousin's cafe, the Singapore Art Cafe inside library@esplanade. Although the work is getting a routine, i still enjoy making good lattes, cappacuinos(its an art, being consistent is the difficult part, especially frothing the milk) and dishing out good service. and of course, watching pretty gals walking through our doors, although most of them holding hands. Still it does brighten up the day!

In addition, the music on wednesday and friday nights can be very good, esp on wednesday. Sometimes its really quite amazing to hear local talent strutting their stuff, some i dare say better than singapore idol contestants! which is definitely more of a popularity contest. Here u hear true vocals, i urge whoever reading this, pop by on wednesday nights, its really worth it, besides its only btw 7-9 pm, pretty short, so pop by for dinner and drinks and enjoy the music. Also i recently helped my cousin whos called Jonathon, design a feedback form, something that i thought off but haven't got down to doing it so on tuesday at work, i finally did it on google spreadsheets on my sister's mac which i bring to work regularly. Something to break out of routine.

So of course on quiet afternoons, I look through classifieds and job portals to hunt for jobs. after all we are inside a library, so we can take newspapers archives and read them. What kind of career am I looking for? something that is not mundane or routine or adminstrative or stifling and among others. Something that is challenging, fun, rewarding, fruitful. ok maybe too much? but well i'm quite flexible. i even applied for a guest services exec with Suntec, a consultant & project exec position at a new local travel startup, and even wrote in to Raffles International, yes i'm considering the hospitality industry as i feel it suits my personality pretty well, as Kai Li once said.

So well for now, i'm still waiting for Power Automation to call me up to tell me yes or no, and for another interview, since another recruitment agency called me couple of days ago to ask me if i'm interested for a application engineer position. Sounds similar to the PA one but yeah i told him I can go down for the interview and find out more. Other than that, I'm still considering if i want to go down the finanical advisory path, ever since i had that interview with First Principal way back in sem 2, I'm still asking myself the same question, do i believe in it? thats the question that i told Marcus about too,

Ok this is a very longggg post. which well proves 1 pt, which i mentioned in my previous post, I still enjoy penning my thoughts and my life down, just that I got to have more discipline doing it! so well heres an update of my life. 4 more months to 2008 and 1 point 5 mths to the age of 25. A quarter of a century here I come!
